There I was yesterday, trawling the net to basically check our links in Google and lo and behold I came across this well written article in the onine magazine " Hidden Europe" which demonstrates that we must be doing something right. Particularly when the only web site with a better review is the garguantly funded OAG, plus we beat the well respected but comparison-only site Skyscanner ! It’s lovely when an independent reviewer gets what we are doing and says good things about us. Thank you, Hidden Europe, may many more readers discover your interesting and well researched stories...

Has Gatwick to Alicante just become the most competitive route in the world ? Roaring Ryanair - with scant regard for the three incumbent airlines: ("ever polite" easyjet, "middle class" monarch and "baggage-borrowing" BA) has just announced the launch of a double daily service between Gatwick and Alicante to add to the approximately seven a day flown by the other three airlines and that’s not including the charter programmes flown by Thomson and Thomas Cook Airlines.... EasyJet was founded on flights from Luton Airport but over the last few years has become Queen of Gatwick with 35 based aircraft, the move by Ryanair to challenge their dominance on Alicante and Gerona (for Barcelona) will be unwelcome methinks.
Property prices may be crashing on the Costa Blanca but at least you can sure that it will cheap to reach your rapidly depreciating asset....

If anyone saw the wonderful Anthony Mingella directed "No1 Ladies Detective agency" BBC film last year or has read any of the Alexander Mc Call Smith books you will know what charming people live in Botswana - and last week we had living proof when Alfred from Air Botswana visited us for the day prior to flying home. Its good to be able to make a web star of a unsung hero.. so here’s photo of the man himself and big Thank you for all his help with our ticketing systems !

The morning after the evening spent viewing the new - breath taking - James Bond Film, apart from the exciting action sequences the stars of the show are the locations and in particular the headline location of Bolivia. Forget the portrayal of this wonderful country as full of dodgy policemen and rogue would-be dictators and concentrate on the fantastic scenary - truly magnificent ! Good news for anyone planning to visit one of South America’s gems is that our favourite Bolivian airline LAB is back flying again and hoping to expand plus we have news that our other favourite airline, Aerosur, is planning to start regular scheduled services to Madrid. Who needs an executve charter like Bond to get to Bolivia when you can use an alternative airline ? Note in the film watch out for the (brief) Virgin Atlantic product placement and the Ocean Skies private jet logo appearing more than once..

As we enter the last week of October, two more historic airlines are subject to irreversible change. One dramatic, though not unexpected and the other prolonged, but both planned and opportunistic at the same time. Sterling Airlines of Denmark can trace its history back decades to being the charter carrier for one of Europe’s most innovative direct sell package tour operators Tjaereborg. Most recently Sterling was re-incarnated as an Icelandic owned low cost carrier. Its bankruptcy yesterday saddens all of us who remember the great days of Sterling and , in particular its wonderful cavalier Portuguese subsidiary Air Columbus. I have always had tremendous admiration for Sir Michael Bishop but this has increased many fold with his opportune sale of the remainder of his shareholding in BMI to the German giant Lufthansa. This entailed exercising an option he held requiring Lufthansa to buy his remaining shares in BMI. From a British perspective its sad to see a UK airline move into the German stable (they also own SWISS); from a European perspective it’s good to see a third Globally able player emerge alongside Air France/KLM and BA/Iberia and from a personal perspective, what does a 66 year old Knight of the Realm do with all that extra money (510 million Euros) ? e
