Botswana's tourist capital, Maun, is one of the busiest centres in the country and the perfect gateway to the Delta. Only a few hours from Maun, travellers can find themselves in the Okavango - the largest inland delta in the world and the Moremi Game Reserve, which is one of the most beautiful reserves in the Africa.

In recent years Maun has developed rapidly from a rural frontier town and has spread along the wide Thamalakane River. It now has good shopping centres, hotels and lodges, as well as car and 4-wheel drive vehicle hire. However, it does still retain its rural atmosphere and local tribesmen continue to bring their cattle here to sell and you might even see antelopes grazing along the riverbanks.

The ideal time to visit Maun is during the winter months from May to October when rainfall is low and the days are warm and cloudless, but nights can be cold. November to April can be very hot and high levels of rainfall are between December and February.

Situated on the Chobe River in the northeast of Botswana, Kasane is a busy little town allowing easy access to the Chobe National Park, which has the Africa's largest concentration of elephants.
Kasane has a great location along the main tourist routes where four countries meet - Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia. This location is great for access to the Chobe National Park, Namibia's Caprivi Strip to the west and the Victoria Falls to the east on the Zimbabwe/Zambian border. In recent years this has led to rapid expansion. Kasane now has a number of garages, banks, shops and river lodges, as well as an international airport just 4km out of town.

The Kasane Hot Springs natural mineral spa and Inchingo fishing camp, which is an excellent area for fishing, are worth a visit while in the village, as well as the regular sundowner river cruises - sunset over the Chobe River is arguably one of the most photographed in Africa. A trip on the rapids of the Chobe River and a visit to the old hollow baobab tree, which has an interesting history are a must.
