Air Botswana goes for Growth
Air Botswana has revealed new strategic plans to improve its financial and operational performance. Mike Higgins, the airline's new General Manager, has said that they will solve the problems that grounded the ATR 46 and 42 aircraft in March and May 2009 and will source two new BAe 146 aircraft to be used on the Gaborone to Lusaka route which launches in August this year.
Higgins also indicated that more regional routes will follow with connections to long haul carriers being important. “After building capacity and the regional routes we should then be able to attract long haulers, and we can also take the bilateral agreements and turn them into viable commercial routes,” he added. Higgins, who reported for duty last month, brings a wealth of experience to turn around the “ailing airline”. He has worked for Virgin Atlantic as a sales and marketing manager and for British Airways (BA) as country manager. He has also served Kenya Airways and Mauritius Airways in various capacities.
